Kanye West has left Jay-Z’s Tidal in a dispute over money and the company has threatened litigation, TMZ reported. West claims Tidal owes him more than $3 million.
West, as we can all remember, was one of the first artists to join Jay Z’s streaming service at its launch in 2015; his 2016 album The Life of Pablo was originally released as a Tidal exclusive. West claims that album brought 1.5 million new subscribers to Tidal, a number that was apparently supposed to come with a bonus check, according to TMZ. West also says Tidal went back on a promise of additional money for exclusive music videos, which Tidal reportedly says Kanye never produced.
According to TMZ, Tidal has threatened to sue West if he leaves the streaming service.
But news of the dispute only came after the release of Jay-Z’s new album « 4:44, » on which Jay-Z lays into his former protege on the track « Kill Jay-Z. »
« I know people backstab you, I feel bad too / But this fuck everybody attitude ain’t natural / But you ain’t the same, this ain’t KumbaYe / But you got hurt because you did cool by ‘Ye / You gave him 20 million without thinkin’ / He gave you 20 minutes on stage, fuck was he thinkin’? / ‘Fuck wrong with everybody?’ is what you sayin’ / But if everybody’s crazy, you’re the one that’s insane, » Jay-Z raps.
But according to sources, West has been unhappy with Tidal « for a long time, » according to another TMZ report. He expected a bonus from the company after his « Saint Pablo » album brought 1.5 million new subscribers to Tidal, but it was never paid. West also claims he wasn’t reimbursed for the cost of music videos. Tidal’s position is that West didn’t deliver the videos required by his contract.
So Tidal not only made ‘Ye unhappy but his fans too :
